MASSACHUSETTS — A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for most of Massachusetts on Tuesday afternoon with the National Weather Service forecasting up to 4 inches of snow and ice during the daylight hours of Thursday.

The advisory was put in effect between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday and covers all of eastern and central Massachusetts except for the Cape and Islands.

"Plan on slippery road conditions," the NWS said in the alert. "The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes."

The NWS said snow is expected to overspread the region between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. and then will change to a mixture of rain and sleet throughout the afternoon. Mixed precipitation will change to all rain late in the day — especially from Boston to Providence.

"Temperatures northwest of I-95 will likely remain below freezing into the evening rush hour," the NWS said.

"Slow down and use caution while traveling," the NWS said.
