It Could Cost You $100K A Year To Attend These MA Colleges

Five colleges in Massachusetts made the list of the country's most expensive.

MASSACHUSETTS — Five of the 30 most expensive colleges in the country are located in Massachusetts, according to a recent analysis.

More than half of the 30 most expensive colleges have tuition costs of more than $70,000 a year in the 2025-2026 academic year, according to the report from The College Investor, a personal finance website.

The costs represent tuition only, but room and board, and textbook costs, which the personal finance website could cause the costs to soar over $100,000 a year.

Nationally, the cost of a four-year bachelor’s degree is much lower — between $40,000 to $80,000 a year, depending on the major, The College Investor previously reported.

4. Amherst College is located in its namesake city in central Massachusetts. The selective liberal arts institution was founded in 1821 and offers 42 different majors. Its tuition cost is listed as $73,140.
7. Boston College is one of the largest schools on the nationwide list, enrolling approximately 15,000 students throughout its undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. Its tuition cost is listed as $72,180.
20. Boston University is almost twice as large as Boston College with nearly 35,000 students. Its tuition cost is listed as $69,870.
22. Wellesley College is a liberal arts college known for having predominantly female students. Its tuition is listed as $69,800.
27. Tufts University is located on the border of Somerville and Medford. Its tuition cost is listed as $69,146.
