MA Bakery Pays Homage To The Black And White Cookie On National Food Holiday

Black and White Cookie Day is Sept. 14. One local bakery will have a unique twist on the classic dessert.

MASSACHUSETTS — If you've ever visited or lived in New York City, the answer to the question of what cookie best defines the city is a fairly simple one: it's the black and white cookie.

For the rest of the country, Sept. 14 can serve as a great occasion to indulge in the cakey cookie, as its another example of a national food holiday honoring the baked good.

In Massachusetts, Levain Bakery locations on Newbury Street and in the Seaport will have limited edition black and white chocolate chip cookies from Friday through Sunday in celebration of the holiday.

Inspired by the classic black and white, Levain's homage features rich dark cocoa, semi-sweet chocolate chips and chunky white chocolate bits.

Created for the Flatiron NYC bakery, it gained such popularity that it was extended to all stores nationally for this weekend only, officials said.
