Severe Storms May Hit MA With Damaging Winds, Hail, Heavy Rain

The chance of severe weather is back, setting up hazards for rush hour on Friday morning, according to forecasts.

MASSACHUSETTS — Yet again, Massachusetts may see isolated severe weather Friday.

The difference this time: severe storms may strike during the morning commute.

The National Weather Service is predicting a mixed bag of isolated severe weather Friday morning for the entire state east of the Berkshires.

"Friday will feature a round of strong to severe storms in the morning and afternoon. The main hazards are damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding, with a lower but still present risk of tornadoes," the weather service said in a tweet Thursday morning.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center is predicting a 2 percent chance of tornadoes in eastern Massachusetts with Friday's storms.

On top of the severe weather, Friday will be a humid, hot day, with dew points in the 70 to 75 range with temperatures reaching 85 in some parts of the state. That soupy weather will wash away Friday night, according to forecasts, with highs only reaching the mid-70s on Saturday.
