MA Near Tropical Storm Philippe Path, Setting Up Rainy Weekend

MASSACHUSETTS — A tropical storm hovering over the Virgin Islands will make its way up the Atlantic coast and have an impact on Massachusetts on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasts released Tuesday night included eastern Massachusetts in Tropical storm Philippe's cone, raising the chance of heavy rain and possible high winds on Saturday lasting into Sunday, according to forecasts.

At the same time on Saturday, rainstorms from the west will be pushing across the state, mingling with whatever remains of Philippe, according to forecasts. The weather service was predicting higher amounts of rain from the I-495 corridor into the Connecticut River valley.

"Details specific to the interaction between these two features are both complicated and also still uncertain. However confidence continues to grow in cloudy and rainy conditions again for late in the week and especially into Sat/Sat night," the National Weather Service office in Norton said in a forecast Wednesday.

Before stormy weather returns on Saturday, the region will be treated to dry and unseasonably warm weather. Temperatures will likely reach into the 80s Wednesday for Worcester and points east followed by a slow cooling trend with temperatures in the 60s on Friday.
