MASSACHUSETTS — Another round of hazardous weather will swing through Massachusetts Thursday, bringing heavy rain and a slight chance of more tornadoes in one section of the state.

All parts of the state from Worcester County east will be under a flood watch beginning at 2 p.m., lasting into Friday morning. Communities along the Shawsheen River, including Andover and Lawrence, remained under a flood warning following heavy rain Tuesday.

"A flood watch is in place for eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island Thursday afternoon through Friday morning for 1 to 3 inches, isolated 4-plus inches, of rain that will fall in areas of southern New England that received 4 to 6 inches of rain on Tuesday," the National Weather Service tweeted Thursday.

Tornadoes will also be possible in the southeastern part of the state — an area that has seen three tornadoes in recent weeks, including two separate twisters on Tuesday in Mattapoisett and Barnstable.

Forecasts say Thursday's storm could begin in the late afternoon hours and continue early into Friday.

Tuesday's storm dumped a surprising amount of rain in a short time in many communities, especially in the Merrimack Valley and North Shore. Lawrence Airport measured 6.72 inches of rain during that event, and Amesbury received 5.6 inches. Even communities farther away like Millis, Yarmouth, Bellingham and Wellesley received near or above 4 inches.

Massachusetts will get a short break from active weather on Friday, but severe thunderstorms are set to return again on Saturday night, according to the weather service.
