The advisory warned that the heat index might climb to 96 degrees and, coupled with high humidity, may "cause heat illnesses."

"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," the National Weather Service said.

The advisory was to last until 8 p.m. Monday.

Also Monday, the National Weather Service said to expect a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m.

There was a chance of showers mainly after 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The Tuesday forecast called for a chance of showers before 11 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., followed by more showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m.
