NORFOLK, MA — Police have arrested a 19-year-old man from Norfolk after they say he broke into a farm on Miller Street in Norfolk to have sex with a horse.

Police charged the unnamed man with sexual contact with an animal, cruelty to an animal, and breaking and entering during the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony.

The man turned himself into police Tuesday afternoon accompanied by a lawyer.

An investigation was launched after Hillary Swarr, the owner of Turner Hill Equestrian Stables, informed police of the incident that was recorded on surveillance footage.

According to Norfolk police, the man was seen sneaking into the stables around 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning, trying to lure horses away from their pen.

Swarr told police the man attempted to unplug all the security cameras but missed one, which sent surveillance footage of him in the act to an employee of Turner Hill after an alarm was sounded.

Police said the investigation was conducted in the same way they would investigate a human sexual assault, according to the MetroWest Daily News.

“He was familiar with horses,” Norfolk police Detective Samuel Webb told the newspaper. “The way he was able to put the reins on the horses show he knew what he was doing.”

Swarr said a new security system was immediately installed and Webb said the suspect will likely be charged with sexual contact with an animal, trespassing, and other charges if caught.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Norfolk police.
