Petersham Teen Makes Cover Of Massachusetts Fishing And Hunting Guide

A Petersham teen was featured on the cover of the 2026 Massachusetts Fishing and Hunting Guide.

Kyler Leslie, 14, was pictured with his gold pin-winning 15-pound, 39-inch northern pike, caught on the Connecticut River on March 6, 2024.

Massachusetts Wildlife magazine editor Troy Gipps selected the photo for the cover, and it came as a surprise to Kyler, according to a media release from the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.

"When Gipps contacted Kyler’s parents, Michael and Tina Leslie, to secure permission to use the image on the cover, they all agreed to keep it a secret until the Guide was published — even Kyler’s little brother kept the secret for nearly two months!" the release said.
