MASSACHUSETTS — Anyone hoping to perform a Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles transaction this weekend will have to wait — the RMV's system will be down for most of the weekend.

The department will migrate to a new infrastructure platform this weekend, meaning its website will not be available from 1 a.m. Saturday to noon Sunday.

During that time, access to the RMV system will not be available, meaning online transactions and vehicle inspections cannot occur, RMV officials said.

Drivers whose inspections expire in November should not take their vehicle to an inspection station on Saturday or Sunday, officials said, and RMV customers and business partners are asked to process Registry transactions after noon on Sunday.

The RMV said its new platform will better manage customer service delivery "for an improved technology performance."

"The pause in conducting transactions is a necessary step in order for the Registry to be successful in migrating to a new infrastructure platform," Registrar Colleen Ogilvie said. "We apologize to customers who are inconvenienced and encourage the public to take advantage of transaction opportunities and vehicle inspections at another time."
