Smoke-Filled Skies Spark Air Quality Alert, Logan Airport Flight Delays: See Latest Forecast
Smoke from the Canadian wildfires, along with summer heat near 90 degrees, could spell trouble for those with asthma, lung or heart disease.

UPDATED 2 p.m.
MASSACHUSETTS — A haze in the air and the smell of a nearby campfire across the Bay State on Monday is the result of winds bringing in smoke from Canadian wildfires across New England.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection issued an Air Quality Alert across the state until midnight on Monday because of fine particulates approaching or exceeding unhealthy levels for sensitive groups.

"Air is unhealthy for sensitive children and adults, such as those with asthma, lung or heart disease, and older adults," the Mass DEP said. "Sensitive children and adults should limit prolonged outdoor activity."

Air Traffic Control Alerts said a ground delay was issued because of the haze at about 2 p.m. on Monday with arriving flights delayed up to one hour.

The hazy skies will accompany a very warm day where temperatures away from the coast could approach 90 degrees.
That should be the warmest day of the week as winds shift to the east starting Tuesday, with high temperatures in the 70s along the coast and holding in the lower 80s inland.
It should be a great week for vacationers with very little — if any — rain expected.
The National Weather Service said the heat of summer will creep closer toward the end of the week with highs in the mid-80s on Saturday and Sunday and into the 90s once again early next week.
