MASSACHUSETTS — A Sunday night blast of snow made travel tricky across Massachusetts and left up to 3 inches of fresh snow for Monday morning cleanup.

While much of that should melt during a sunny and warmer Monday, the clash of cold and warm weather across New England sets the stage for multiple wintry events this week that could include snow, ice and rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Here are some of the top snowfall totals across MA Monday morning:

Monday is shaping up as one of the more pleasant days in recent weeks with a high temperature of 44 degrees and light southwest wind allowing for plenty of melting of the Sunday snow and the ice-crusted ground beneath it.

Monday night should be the first night where temperatures stay above freezing in more than a month with the temperature again hitting the low 40s early on Tuesday before falling later in the day amid a brisk northwest wind.

Wednesday returns to colder weather with a high of 31 degrees before warmer weather makes a comeback with precipitation late Wednesday into Thursday morning. It could start out as a period of snow and ice Thursday morning with temperatures eventually rising into the 40s once again Thursday afternoon.

The timing of the change will be key with some areas experiencing prolonged tough driving conditions during the morning commute and ride to school.

After a seasonable Friday and Saturday with highs in the upper 30s with sunshine, the next chance for snow comes Saturday night with the NWS saying that "snow could be heavy at times" with "patchy freezing fog."

Snow and ice could linger into early Sunday morning before temperatures warm back to near 40 degrees as the precipitation shifts to rain.
