Touch Of Spring As Temperatures Soar To 50s Across MA This Week

The long-awaited thaw should melt much of the ice and snow that has made walking and driving precarious in many areas.

MASSACHUSETTS — Many folks may experience a long-awaited bout of spring fever across Massachusetts this week as two months of frigid temperatures and the recent snow and ice give way to temperatures in the 50s for several days.

If the temperature hits 50 degrees or higher in Greater Boston, likely Tuesday, it will be the first time that has happened in 2025 — the last 50-degree day being way back on New Year's Eve.

It might not be record warmth but it marks a significant shift from a pattern that has made it the coldest winter season in 10 years in New England with virtually no reprieve from freezing temperatures and gusty winds keeping wind chills near zero many days. The thaw will also help break up the ice that has been hard to move or melt since last weekend's winter storm.

Monday was shaping up as a nice transition day with temperatures reaching a high of 46 degrees with sun and light winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday is the first legitimate shot at 50 degrees for most with the NWS forecasting a high of 54 in Boston with clouds, a chance of a rain shower, and a light southwest wind.

Wednesday could be the nicest day of the week with abundant sunshine and highs near 50 degrees.

Thursday will feature another shot at 50 degrees with rain likely after 3 p.m., a high of 53 degrees, and a strong south wind with gusts to 22 mph.

Temperatures are expected to slide back into a more wintry feel late in the week with a high of 44 degrees on Friday, 41 with rain on Saturday and highs only in the 30s on Sunday and Monday, before warmer weather returns for the first full week of March next week.
