Acton PD Warn About Call Spoofing Scam

Spoofing is when a scammer will use a fake, but recognizable caller ID, like a local police department or government agency.

ACTON, MA — Acton police are warning residents about a scam claiming to be federal officials or local police and soliciting money.

The scammers use spoofing technology which falsely shows a real police department or federal office number on the victim's caller ID. When the victim answers, the scammer usually tries to obtain personal information from them which can be used for identity theft and fraudulent activity.

Acton police warn that anyone who receives a similar call should call the police at 978-929-7711.
