As of noon, 1,977 registered voters, or 13 percent, had cast a ballot, the Town Clerk's office said.

The breakdown as of noon is as follows:

  • Precinct 1: 269
  • Precinct 2: 297
  • Precinct 3: 361
  • Precinct 4: 373
  • Precinct 5: 346
  • Precinct 6: 331

Town Clerk Eva Szkaradek said last week she's expecting a good turnout.

"We usually gage it on the absentee ballots, and we have quite a few," she said on June 20. "I do expect a decent turnout."

Szkaradek said the office had about 120 absentee ballots as of June 19, and that for a special state election about 10 to 20 percent of the registered voters are expected to cast a vote.

Polls will remain open today until 8 p.m.

Republican Gabriel Gomez is taking on Democrat and long-time Rep. Ed Markey for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Kerry.

Town Hall has felt its own heat this election day as it has had to deal with power outages from a blown transformer. But the office said the outages are not affecting the polls.
