5 Things You Need To Know Today: June 11

Before you start your day, here are 5 things you need to know.

It is Monday, June 11 and here are five things you need to know:

1.Wondering how your tax dollars are being spent?

2. Pomps Pond opens for the season on Saturday, June 16 at noon. The pond is open daily for the season beginning Saturday, June 16, including July 4th. Daily fees are $5 per person. Residents can purchase a season sticker for $75; resident senior citizen price is $40, age 60 & up through June 17th. Fees will increase to $100/$60 seniors beginning June 18th. Hours are noon until 7 pm until August when the pond will close at 6 pm. A great family place to have a picnic, purchase a burger or pizza or cool off with an ice cream.  Swim lesson sessions begin on July 9 or July 23 held Monday-Thursday from 11:15 am-12noon (Friday rain make-up day). DCS summer booklets are now online and should be mailed to residents by the end of this week. Check out the Andover DCS website www.andoverma.gov/dcs for fees, descriptions and schedules. 3. Andover in the Civil War: Lecture by Mike Morris Jr. will take place this Thursday. Listen as Civil War enthusiast Mike Morris Jr. discusses Joan Silva Patrakis’ book “Andover in the Civil War: The Spirit & Sacrifice of a New England Town” a fascinating history of the impacts of the Civil War upon Andover.  Mike will touch upon several topics ranging from the battlefield experiences of Andover men, the ravages of disease upon Andover’s soldiers and how the Civil War was remembered by its Andover participants.  Hear the moving stories of Andover residents during the bloodiest years in America’s history.  Reserve your seat!

4. Congratulations to Adrienne B. Weisner! On May 24, she graduated from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Weisner is a graduate of Vassar College and Brooks School. She will continue her clinical studies as an Orthodontic Resident at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Weisner is the daughter of Dr. Stephen and Maureen Weisner of Andover. She resides in Beacon Hill.
