Adams Wins GOP Primary, Voter Turnout 13 Percent

The State Primary on Thursday may have not had the most percent of voters in a given year but it took less than 100 votes for State Rep. Paul Adams to claim victory.

Adams won the race for the Republican nomination for the Second Essex and Middlesex senate district, now occupied by Democrat Sen. Barry Finegold, by 91 votes, garnering 50.8 percent of the votes. 

Therefore, Adams will be moving on in November to face Finegold.

In Andover, the Town Clerk saw a 13.98 percent voter turnout, a little less than what he had predicted earlier in the day. However, the turnout, while low is still comparable to other years.

Andover Town Clerk Lawrence Murphy said he anticipates a high voter turnout for the November election, similar to voter turnout for the 2008 election, which was 88 percent.

"I think we can expect that again," said Murphy. "People are so polarized. Just as they were back in 2008."

In the race for the Governor's Council, Eileen Duff won the Democratic nomination and will be going on to the elections in November.

Republican Jon Golnik beat Tom Weaver in the race for the GOP nomination for the Third Congressional District. Golnik will go on to face Niki Tsongas in November. Duff will go on to challenge Republican Maura Ciardiello in the Nov. election.
