Andover Voter Guide: The Annual Town Election Is On March 28

Here is what you need to know ahead of the election.

ANDOVER, MA — The Town of Andover's Annual Town Election is on March 28.

This year, four offices are on the ballot, three of which are being contested: town moderator, select board member, school committee member and Punchard Free School trustees (two seats).

The registration deadline was March 18.

For this election, there will be two ways to vote: in person and by mail. There will be no early, in-person voting.

Voters can check their voter registration status on the Secretary of State's website or by calling the Town Clerk's office at 978-623-8230.

The Board of Registrars of Voters will hold extended office hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Town Offices, located at 36 Bartlet St. The purpose of the session is to allow new voters to register or for voters to change their party enrollment.

Residents also can register online. To register online, residents need a license or ID issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

On Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Precincts 1 and 3 will vote at the Youth Center, located at 40 Whittier Ct. Precincts 4, 4A, 5 and 6 will vote at Wood Hill Middle School, located at 11 Cross St. Precincts 2,7, 8,9 and 10 will vote at Andover High School's Richard J. Collins Field House, located at 80 Shawsheen Rd.

Residents can search their precinct online.

Any registered voter can vote early by mail without any kind of justification needed for absentee voting.

To vote early by mail, voters must:

  • Request a ballot by submitting an application.
  • Receive a ballot from the Town Clerk's office.
  • Return the completed ballot to the Town Clerk's Office.

Mail-in ballot applications are available online and at the Andover Town offices. The last day and hour to submit a mail-in early voting ballot application is 5 p.m. on March 21.

Also, town officials remind residents that if they submitted a mail-in ballot application in 2022, they need to request those ballots again.

After receiving completed mail-in ballot applications, the Town Clerk's office will mail voters an early voting ballot along with a prepaid postage return envelope.

Voters are asked to return their completed ballots by mailing them to the Town Clerk's Office, at 36 Bartlet St., or by dropping them into the town's secure drop box at the same location

Mail-in early voting ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on March 28 (Election Day). Voters are not allowed to submit their ballots to polling locations on Election Day.

For every election, absentee voting is available to anyone unable to vote on Election Day for one of three reasons: physical disability, religious beliefs or travel. Details about obtaining and submitting absentee ballots are available online.
