Andover Council On Aging To Host Seminar For Dementia Caregivers

"Managing Money: A Caregiver's Guide to Finances" will feature ​guest speaker Dr. Elizabeth Vassey​​, from the Boston Center for Memory.

ANDOVER, MA — The Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern Massachusetts Alzheimer's Partnership will host a seminar next week in Andover to help dementia caregivers manage their loved one's finances.

The free program is called "Managing Money: A Caregiver's Guide to Finances" will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Nov. 4 at Andover Council on Aging, which is located at 30 Whittier Court.

Dr. Elizabeth Vassey, a clinical scientist and the executive director of the Boston Center for Memory (BCM), will be the guest speaker. According to event organizers, Vassey will discuss "how to use medical professionals and how to set up doctor's appointments for success."

Other topics expected to be covered at the event are: the benefits of early financial planning, facts about the financial impact of Alzheimer's and other dementia, tips for managing someone else's finances and common signs that a person is struggling to manage money.

Additionally, attendees will learn how to avoid financial abuse and fraud and they will receive tips on planning for the cost of care, including in-home health, adult day services and residential care.

"Family caregivers for people living with dementia face a great deal of stress. Getting financial plans in place can help reduce that stress, ensure financial security and maximize options for long-term care," said Nicole McGurin, the director of programs and services for the Alzheimer's Association Massachusetts and New Hampshire Chapter.
