UPDATED: Andover Fire Responds to Two Alarm on Cheyenne Circle

An Andover fire crew came back Friday morning to extinguish some insulation that was still smoldering.

Despite two efforts by the homeowner to extinguish it, a fire tore through a Cheyenne Circle home Thursday afternoon. However, no people or pets were injured the two alarm house fire. Fire crews went back to the house Friday morning to extinquish some insulation that was smoldering. 

Police chief Michael Mansfield said that the cause of the fire is under investigation and that Andover Fire, Police and State Fire Marshals Office are all looking into the structure fire. 

Mansfield said that the fire was called in at 3:22 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. A father, three kids and two dogs were home at the time. The fire reportedly started in a second floor back bedroom and spread to the attic. For more photos, visit our .

The chief said that fighting an attic fire through pull-down stairs can be difficult but added that the firefighting effort experienced no main setbacks.

Andover Firefighters, along with those from Tewksbury and Lawrence, fought the two alarm fire at 5 Cheyenne Circle Thursday afternoon. Wilmington, North Andover and Methuen helped with emergency medical services as well as addressing other auxiliary needs.

The father at the home attempted to fight the bedroom fire two different times, once with a garden hose and once with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful. He was treated for smoke inhalation. 

The fire caused roughly $200,000 damage to the $830,000 home. The home is currently uninhabitable but the Red Cross has responded and will be helping the family.

One of the family's dogs was able to escape on its own and the other dog was rescued by firefighters.

Mansfield said the firefighters found the dog in a lower floor hiding in a corner. They leashed the dog to exit the home and then handed the pet over to a neighbor.

Insulation Smoldering

On Friday morning, Andover fire crews came back to the scene at Cheyenne Circle because a piece of insulation inside the walls had been smoldering and smoke was visible from the home.

Mansfield said it took firefighters 10 minutes to extinquish the insulation.
