Andover Honors Korean War Vets
More than 1,000 Andover residents served in what is often called "the forgotten war."
In Andover, Veterans Day this year gave special honor to veterans of the Korean War, which ended 60 years ago.
Often called "the forgotten war" due to the lack of attention it received in the decades following as well as its historical placement between the global World War II and the long Vietnam War, the Korean War was the first United States battle against communism.
Andover Veterans Services has published a fifth installment of its "Heroes Among Us” book project. At the 12 p.m. ceremony at Ballerdvale Green Monday, veterans who served in the Korean War were honored and given a copy of the book.
More than 1,000 Andover residents served in the Korean War. Among them were the first husband and wife duo to be featured in "Heroes Among Us," Dolores and John Carroll, featured in the attached video.
