Andover Teen Gets Scholarship To Attend Northeastern

ANDOVER, MA — An Andover High School student recently received a $1,000 scholarship from Merrimack Valley Credit Union, the company announced.

Sophia Nguyen will start at Northeastern University in the fall, where she plans to study bioengineering. Nguyen is one of 15 students awarded scholarship funds from MVCU this year.

105 students from 43 high schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts applied for the scholarships and were scored based on academic record, community involvement, recommendation letters and more. A total of $16,500 in scholarship money was awarded to 15 students.

"As in past years," MVCU President and CEO John Howard said, "the caliber of students and their applications is outstanding, making our selection process all the more difficult."

Nina Tiani, of Hull, Massachusetts, was awarded the first ever Lisa Lewis Goodman Community Spirit Award for embodying "a spirit of generosity, kindness and selflessness." The award, named after MVCU's Collections Manager who died in 2021, comes with a $2,500 scholarship. Tiani will attend Boston College to study Operations Management.
