Nicholson has been serving as assistant superintendent in Andover since 2007. Before that, she had been principal of North Andover High School.

A call to the superintendent's office was not immediately returned.

Nicholson also explained why she wanted to work in Waltham.

“What appeals to me in Waltham, as I said, is the ability you have to continue to offer students a well-rounded education,” Nicholson said. Waltham’s strong arts program and “vibrant” parent community also attracted her to district, Nicholson said.

“There is a strong support for education in this community,” she said.

Nicholson resides in Methuen. She earned her Masters of Education at Northeastern University and her Doctor of Education at UMass-Lowell.
