Company To Cut Hundreds Of Jobs At Andover Facility

A Wilmington-based company has announced it will cut jobs at an Andover facility this summer.

ANDOVER, MA — A Wilmington-based robotics company will cut 400 jobs at its Andover facility by June 27, according to a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice filed with the state last month.

Symbotic LLC specializes in automated warehouse technology. The company purchased an Andover robotics unit for $200 million from Walmart, which plans to use Symbotic technology in at least 400 of its stores, according to a statement from the company.

The layoffs are anticipated to occur June 27.

A company official told MassLive that "decisions like these are always difficult" and that the company is cutting jobs "to ensure we are best positioned for the future."
