Election Guide: 2nd Essex and Middlesex

In the 2012 election, Andover residents will pick a representative for state senate in the Second Essex and Middlesex District, consisting of Lawrence, and Andover, in the county of Essex; and Dracut and Tewksbury, in the county of Middlesex.

Candidates

• Democratic Incumbent Barry Finegold: State Sen. Barry Finegold spent many years in the State House as a State Representative and then recently became the State Senator for the Second Essex and Middlesex District. He will now be defending his seat against State Rep. Paul Adams
•  Republican Challenger Paul Adams: State Rep. Paul Adams, R-Andover, had spent less than two years in his seat as a state representative when he made his decision to challenge Finegold. Recent changes to electorial districts was one of the factors that pushed him to run. He defeated Andover selectman Alex Vispoli in the Republican primary in September.
