Firefighters Rescue Horse After Fall
A horse on Bancroft Road had fallen down and was stuck on the ground.
Emergency staff from several communities responded to a report of a horse that slipped on the ice and could not get up early Thursday afternoon on Bancroft Road.
arrived at 9 Bancroft Road at approximately noontime to help the horse that was pinned with his back against the fence in a horse paddock, according to Deputy Fire Chief Jim Dolan.
“The horse had slipped. He could not get his legs back under him,” said Dolan.

The Essex Regional Technical Rescue Team responded to the incident, but Andover fire personnel were able to get the horse up using several men and a large girdle.
“We dragged the horse away from the fence,” said Dolan.

The horse was then hoisted up once it was positioned in the middle of the paddock. Fortunately, no injuries to the horse were reported as of this afternoon.
The horse was up after roughly an hour and fire staff cleared the scene at around 1:15 p.m. The horse, whose name is Willie, was sedated and is now resting.
A local veterinarian was also on scene to assist.
