Five Things You Missed at the Selectmen’s Meeting

The Board of Selectmen discussed many issues including charging stations for electric cars, mosquito spraying and Andover Days.

Senior Planner Lisa Schwarz told selectmen Monday night that the Planning Division has recently been investigating the idea installing charging stations for all-electric cars in downtown Andover. She said that 25 communities throughout the state, such as Chelmsford, has already received grants for installing charging stations and said Andover could apply. In some cases, she said that a local business or organization would sponsor the stations and provide the funding to cover the costs that the grant does not cover. She said the town could get a fee for the parking space and possibly a portion of the revenue from the charging in some scenarios. 

Town Manager Reginald “Buzz” Stapczynski said that the mosquito spraying last week went well and that they would consider spraying the ball fields as well as the school. Two weeks ago the Mosquito Control District in Andover and then decided to spray in certain affected areas, such as Chestnut Street.

Selectman Paul Salafia reminded residents that Andover Days is only one month away, Sept. 26, and that businesses or organizations have little time to reserve a booth or table at the large town festival.

Selectman Salafia also discussed the . He said they are now in the middle of choosing between three different scenarios and will be making a presentation to selectmen in late August or early September.

Selectman Alex Vispoli discussed the formation of an Economic Development Committee. He said that he wanted to discuss the creation of a draft mission and other items at an upcoming selectmen’s meeting.
