Flood Warning Issued For Essex County: National Weather Service

A flood warning for the Shawsheen River has been issued for Essex County on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

ANDOVER, MA — The National Weather Service in Boston has issued a flood warning for the Shawsheen River affecting Essex County. The forecast calls for minor flooding in Wilmington, North Andover, and Andover.

"At 29.0 feet, Floodwaters encroach on very lowest lying business parking lots off of Route 114 in Lawrence and North Andover that are adjacent to the Shawsheen River," the National Weather Service noted.

As of Wednesday morning, the river was at 28.8 feet. It's expected to rise above flood stage in the afternoon and crest at 29.2 feet Wednesday evening. Then the river will fall below flood stage late Thursday morning.

Drivers should not attempt to drive around barricades or through flooded areas, the National Weather Service said.

The flood warning is in effect until Thursday afternoon.
