How Do I Dispose of My Christmas Tree Properly?

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan today urged community members to dispose of their Christmas trees properly.

Christmas trees kept too long after the holiday have been involved in fires, including one at a Lunenberg condominium last Jan. 9, Coan said in a press release.

Plus, I bet most of us can agree that holiday spirit fades abruptly on New Year's Day and that magical Christmas centerpiece starts to look more like a magical column of yard waste in your living room.

But, fear not, getting rid of it is easy.

In Andover, you can dispose of your Christmas tree by placing it out by the curb along with your trash on the normal trash collection day. "Residents are being asked to remove all decorations and place thre tree curbside with your regular trash. Trees frozen in snow banks will not be picked up," per Andover's Trash and Recycling Guide for 2012-2013.
