Merrimack Valley In Path Of Severe Friday Afternoon Storms

A cluster of rain, lightning and high winds is headed toward the Merrimack Valley with the National Weather Service issuing an alert.

ANDOVER, MA — High heat and humidity are leading to a breakout of downpours and severe storms across southern New England Friday afternoon with the Merrimack Valley in the path of one of the clusters.

The National Weather Service issued a "Special Weather Statement" Friday afternoon for storms heading through southern New Hampshire toward the Andover area.

The NWS said these storms are capable of bringing lightning, pea-sized hail and 40-mile-per-hour winds.

Those in the path of the storm are advised to seek shelter in a sturdy structure as quickly as possible.

The warning was issued at 3 p.m. and set to expire at 3:45 p.m.
