North Andover Woman Who Scammed Elderly NH Resident Sentenced
Rachel Chen bilked elderly victims out of tens of thousands of dollars. She was sentenced to serve time in state prison plus restitution.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — A North Andover woman who played a part in scamming elderly residents out of tens of thousands of dollars was sentenced to state prison, according to a statement from New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella.
Rachel Chen, 26, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit theft by deception and theft by deception, both class A felonies.
Chen attempted to pick up $22,000 in cash from an elderly victim in Allenstown, New Hampshire on March 14, prosecutors said.

Chen's coconspirators had falsely told the victim he had a virus on his computer and that his financial accounts were compromised. They told him he had to turn over the cash to protect it.
Following her arrest, an investigation found Chen and her coconspirators used tech support scams to bilk two other elderly victims out of $40,000.

Chen was sentenced to 2 to 6 years in state prison on one conspiracy count and to 7 1/2 to 15 years for the other.
She was ordered to pay $20,000 in remaining restitution after paying another $20,000 prior to sentencing. Chen was also barred from working in any capacity with elderly, disabled, or impaired adults, and serving as a fiduciary for anyone.
