Now - Main Street Gulf Station

The historic photo posted yesterday depicted an undeveloped lot that would become the Main Street Gulf Station.

That historic photo posted yesterday was shot at the intersection of Main Street and Chestnut Street at the property currently known as the Andover Gulf Station. Before it served gas station owners, Anodver Historical Society records say that this area was known as Baxter's Corner.

Congratulations to Andover Patch Kirstin Clarke, who was the first to correctly answer this week's Then and Now question.

Andover Patch reader Gail Ralston also guessed correctly (but was too late!). However, she did have some interesting comments on the photo:

"The home was built for Abbott Walker; then was occupied by the Reverend Justin Edwards who at one time was the Andover Theological Seminary President.  It then was owned by a Mr. Andrews and for a while the Andover Historical Society rented rooms here in their "early days.  In 1931, the U.S. Post Office built it's main Andover branch here.  Current it is home to the Sovereign Bank."

Thanks to all that participated!
