Footage from high school surveillance tapes. Jurors see Chism pull up his hood just before following Colleen Ritzer into bathroom.

Surveillance video shown in the trial of Philip Chism, a former Danvers High School student accused of raping and killing his algebra teacher, shows him following the woman moments before her slaying.

Chism is charged with raping and killing his high school math teacher, Andover native Colleen Ritzer. His lawyer told a jury that he killed her and “did unspeakable things to her body,”

The video, shown to jurors as evidence in court Wednesday, shows the then-14-year-old Chism following Colleen Ritzer in the hallway of Danvers High School into a bathroom on October 22, 2013, according to CNN.com.

Lawyers for Chism, who was 14 years old at the time of his alleged crime, sought a mental health evaluation for him in mid-October. The judge declared the now 16-year-old Chism competent after reading a report on his ability to understand the trial proceedings and assist his attorneys.

On Wednesday, Chism’s lawyer said the 16-year-old would waive his right to appear at his murder trial. Chism changed his mind and told a judge he wants to be present for proceedings, according to cbslocal.com.
