Police Officer Sings, Plays Guitar for Students on Osgood Street

Andover police officers stopped by the Professional Center for Child Development on Osgood Street to visit with students there and even make a little music. 

Andover Safety Officer Charles Edgerly came for a tour of the Osgood Street learning facility along with fellow patrol officers Matthew Hughes and Benjamin Ledwell, this past Wednesday Oct. 3. The school, which has been in Andover since 1986, is "dedicated to teaching and caring for children born with severely disabling conditions or coping with behavioral issues."

During the preschool visit, students were able to ask the uniformed officers anything about being a "police man," as they would put it. With the 3 and 4-year-old group, officers reminded them to always cross the street with an adult.

And the visit with the Developmental Day School turned into an impromptu concert. Newly hired officer Ledwell noticed the teacher's guitar leaning against the wall and asked if he could play and sing for the children. Upon playing, teachers said that the students were brought to attention and captivated by the officer's "soft voice" and musical skill.
