Property Owners: Water Main Leak Detection Program Underway in Andover
When service leaks are found, the responsible parties are notified first by letter via first class mail.

Andover’s Water and Sewer Division’s annual preventive maintenance program, electronic water main leak detection is underway.
The contractor, A. Pyburn and Sons, will work during overnight hours.
Residents should be aware that any fire hydrant being surveyed is still operational and no water quality disturbances are anticipated during leak detection.

Initiated in 2012, the town wide leak detection program helps to identify leaks on water service lines as well as water main leaks.
Electronic leak detection has the ability to pinpoint very small water leaks that could otherwise go unnoticed for long periods of time. With over 254 miles of water main and 12,000-plus service connections in Andover, it is important to locate and address any leaks in the distribution system, according to town officials, in order to reduce unaccounted for water loss and minimize lost revenue.

Single family residents are responsible for the water service from the meter to the curb box, and Andover maintains and owns the service from the curb box to the water main. For all others (i.e., multi-family, condos, commercial and industrial), the property owners are responsible and own the water service lines from the meters to the water main. When service leaks are found, the responsible parties are notified first by letter via first class mail; if there is no response, a second letter is sent via certified mail. Residents with questions or concerns regarding this program can contact the Water Shop at 978-623-8390 or by email at dpw-watersewer@andoverma.gov
