School Officials Investigating Student's 'Hit List' at West Middle

Andover School Superintendent Marinel McGrath released a statement Friday evening regarding a student at West Middle School who had allegedly created a 'hit list' consisting of other students' names.

ANDOVER, MA -- Andover Public Schools are in the process of looking into a student who was in possession of a "hit list" at West Middle School. The list, School Superintendent Marinel McGrath said, contained names of others students. 

McGrath said that, in situations like these, safety of the student and staff is most important. However, she said she would not provide any details on the incident. 

"Andover Public Schools' highest priority is providing a safe learning and teaching environment for our students and staff," McGrath said in statement. "Due to federal and state student privacy laws we cannot comment on matters involving the discipline of a specific student."

A call to Andover Police Lt. James Hashem was not immediately returned. 

Moreover, McGrath said that she feels that the appropriate actions have been taken to prevent any "threat of danger in the school."

"I am satisfied based on my communications with the Principal that all appropriate and necessary measures have been taken in this instance to prevent any threat of danger in the school," McGrath wrote.
