Shawsheen Luncheonette Expected To Reopen With New Owner
A local restauranteur is in the process of buying the restaurant and hopes to reopen — unchanged — within a month.
ANDOVER, MA — Shawsheen Luncheonette's long life in Andover may not be over yet.
A local restauranteur is in the process of buying the restaurant and getting town approval to reopen, he said, a month after the owners said they would be closing for good.
Peter Ahn, of Andover, owns two Bonchon Chicken franchises and has always dreamed of owning a breakfast joint like the Luncheonette.

He is finalizing the sale agreement with owners Brian and Amy Guay, who are retiring, and is working on paperwork with the town, he said.
"Bryan and Amy did it for 32 years and I'm looking to continue that tradition," Ahn said. "It's an institution."

The Guays said in Aug. that the restaurant would close for good with their retirements. The couple previously attempted to hand off the breakfast restaurant in 2019, but the would-be buyers backed out due to the expected cost of bringing the restaurant up to code, the Eagle-Tribune reported at the time.
The town Health Department has been working with Ahn and "are making it feasible for me to meet those requirements," he said.
Ahn hopes to reopen by the end of Sept. or sometime in Oct., he said.
"It's a new owner, but my goal is to keep everything else the same and the community happy," he said.
