Updated: Police Arrest Suspect Following Chase on I-93

State Police arrested a suspect that was fleeing on Interstate 93 and then left on foot.

State Police arrested a suspect in Andover following a high-speed chase on Interstate 93 that ended in a foot pursuit in a wooded area off the highway. The suspect had been wanted after nearly striking several pedestrians in Boston around 9 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Police arrested Edgardo Rodriguez, 31, of 3 Arthurwood Ave., Burlington, in an area off of exit 42 around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Police utilized a helicopter equipped with an infrared camera, which detects heat variations, to locate the Rodriguez, who had been crawling in the woods between Frontage Road and the ramp from Route 133 to Interstate 93.

Rodriguez will be charged with operating to endanger, failure to stop and speeding, according to the Massachusetts State Police media relations. Rodriguez also had two passengers in his 2010 Chevy Malibu.

A State Police trooper in Boston had located Rodriguez heading northbound on Interstate 93 after an alert went out regarding the operator of a Chevy Malibu that nearly struck several pedestrians and refused to stop.

The trooper then called ahead to other State Police units and continued to pursue the subject until Andover. State Police utilized "stop sticks" to puncture the Malibu's tires around the exit for Route 133.

After the car was rendered inoperable, Rodriguez attempted to flee on foot. The State Police Air Wing Unit then located Rodriguez and directed police to the his location, eventually detaining and arresting him.

Rodriguez was booked at the State Police barracks in Andover. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Correction: The State Police media relations first reported that the suspect's first name is Eduardo and that he is a Lawrence resident. Court documents show that his first name is actually Edgardo and that he lives in Burlington.
