ANDOVER, MA —State Rep. Tram Nguyen (D-18th Essex) took to social media Tuesday to thank Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey for her endorsement last month ahead of the Nov. 8 general election.

Nguyen is a second-term representative running for re-election against Republican challenger Jeffrey Dufour, whom she defeated in the 2020 election.

Nguyen previously endorsed Healey in the latter's race for governor against Republican nominee Geoff Diehl.

"It is an honor to be endorsed by AG Maura Healey—the next Governor of our Commonwealth! We already filed hate crimes legislation together; I look forward to working with the Governor's office to protect working families, increase jobs, and take bold climate action," Nguyen wrote on Twitter.

In her endorsement, Healey said she has been impressed by Nguyen's "dedication, compassion and tenacity."

"Representative Nguyen has been a strong partner in our efforts to protect vulnerable communities and promote equity and social justice, including her leadership on our comprehensive bill to reform hate crimes statutes," Healey said. "She works hard for her district, and for everyone in the Commonwealth — and I'm proud to endorse her for re-election."

Healey has been a supporter of Nguyen's over the years. The attorney general backed Nguyen in each of her two previous successful general elections for the Massachusetts House of Representatives 18th Essex District —Nguyen defeated incumbent James Lyons Jr. in the 2020 election.

Additionally, Healey celebrated Nguyen's nomination for the 2021 Emily's List Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award, which honors women who are outstanding leaders in their communities.

Healey also urged the public to vote for Nguyen for the award, which ultimately was won by Harris County (Texas) Judge Lina Hidalgo.

"This is such an exciting honor for Tram and, I have to say, I'm not surprised in the least that she is in the running," Healey said in a statement regarding the Giffords Award nomination. "I endorsed Tram when she first ran for State Representative in 2018. She was a legal aid attorney at the time fighting for the rights of workers, immigrants, and victims of domestic violence and I knew that she would be a powerful voice and an asset to our Commonwealth. She hasn't proven me wrong since."
