Train Vs. Car Accident Reported In Andover, Fire Officials Say

ANDOVER, MA — An accident involving a vehicle and a train occurred Thursday in Andover, according to a post from Andover Fire Rescue.

The accident occurred at the railroad tracks on Essex Street.

Fire officials said to avoid the area.

The crash involved a freight train striking a Lexus around 11:30 a.m., according to WCVB 5-ABC. The car was heavily damaged.

A person was flown to the hospital following the crash, according to NBC Boston. The person's condition was not immediately available.

The MBTA told passengers to expect "severe delays" on the Haverhill Line due to the crash.

MBTA Commuter Rail tweeted the following: "Haverhill Line Train 244 (12:57 pm from Haverhill) will originate at Ballardvale today due to police activity on the right of way. Passengers will be accommodated by shuttle bus from Lawrence."
