VIDEO: Liquor Store Changing Name Following Objections

Selectmen seemed prepared to approve a new liquor store in downtown Andover before objections were raised to similarities in name.

Andover Selectmen took no action this week on an application for a new liquor store to sit in downtown Andover. While discussion over a similarity in names drew some confusion, the board eventually decided that liquor store proponent Gene LeBlanc must reapply due to his desire to change units at 77 Main Street, a detail not updated in his application.

Bob Gilbert, owner of Andover Liquors, claimed that the name “Andover Fine Wines & Spirits” was too similar to his own, which is officially Andover Liquors, Fine Wines, Beers & Spirits.

LeBlanc said that he would change his name to something amenable to both parties. He is set to go before selectmen on March 14.
