Voters Approve Zoning Change for Franciscan Center

The article passed last night at the second session of Andover Annual Town meeting will allow for an senior housing development on the grounds of the Franciscan Center in Andover.

Andover Town Meeting voters discussed at length an article to amend the zoning bylaws to make way for a senior housing complex at the Franciscan Center. With many residents making comments both for and against, in the end, the article passed with little opposition.

Andover Annual Town Meeting continued tonight after getting through the first 25 articles in the 60-plus warrant.

Voters also approved $600,000 to install sidewalks in various sections of town, painting of library windows and curbing, as well as an article paying  Andover's share of the cost of renovations to the Greater Lawrence Technical High School HVAC system.

Article 26 asked voters to approve a senior residential community overlay district that would pave the way for a senior development at the Franciscan Center on River Road.

The Franciscan Center Task Force as well as the Planning Board had been working on a plan to make this a viable option for the town and developers.
