Arlington Election Results Affirmed After Recount

After problems were reported at some polls during the June 6 election, a hand recount took place Thursday.

ARLINGTON, MA — A hand recount held Thursday affirmed the results of the June 6 Town Election. Recounts were done for the Select Board race across all precincts and the Town Meeting races in precincts 6 and 17.

Issues such as paper jams, counting errors and rejected ballots among the tabulating machines were reported in some precincts during the June 6 election. The Select Board race was decided by 88 votes, or less than 0.5 percent of the nearly 18,890 votes cast.

In the recount of the Select Board race, Diane Mahon's vote total remained at 6,680, while Len Diggins received 6,265 votes – two fewer than the initial count – and Michaiah Healy received 6,190 votes – two more than the initial count.

Precinct 6 Town Meeting candidate Laura Kiesel initially received 24 votes, but that number went down to 13 in the recount. Xavid Pretzer, who ran for Town Meeting in Precinct 17, remained at 167 voters following the recount.

Diane Mahon and Len Diggins were elected to the Select Board; George McNinch, L. Sosnoski Tracey and Jill Snyder were elected to Town Meeting in Precinct 6; and John Finichetti, Angela Olszewski and John Leonard were elected to Town Meeting in Precinct 17.
