Arlington Has Seen 3 Coronavirus Cases Since Start Of June

Recent data shows the town hasn't had a confirmed case in more than a week.

ARLINGTON, MA — After seeing a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in April and a steady increase throughout May, Arlington is reporting a plateau in confirmed cases. Arlington has seen three confirmed cases of the virus since June 1, two of which came that day, according to the latest numbers from the town. There has not been a confirmed case since June 8; however, the data shows 15 "probable" cases.

There have been 42 deaths attributed to the coronavirus in Arlington. Its highest single-day case count came April 19, when 41 cases were confirmed.

This week, the town rolled out a Temporary Outdoor Dining License application to allow expanded outdoor seating options for local restaurants. Officials also established an expedited application process, internal review and issuance of approvals to allow for expanded use of public spaces for outdoor dining.

Playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, Thorndike Dog Park and Peirce Field reopened over the weekend with new health and safety guidelines:

  • Wear a face covering or mask when it is not possible to maintain six feet of distance between themselves and others.
  • All visitors shall maintain six feet from all other persons who are not part of the same household.
  • If social distancing is not possible, visitors are encouraged to wait outside the park/playground until it is less crowded or should seek alternative play facilities.
  • Any individual who feels sick or is recovering from an illness shall not visit the park/playground.
  • After visiting the park/playground, visitors are encouraged to wash hands or use hand sanitizer.
