Arlington Looks To Change Zoning To Attract New Industries
The town is seeking feedback on recommended amendments to the Zoning Bylaw and Zoning Map.
ARLINGTON, MA — The town has released draft zoning recommendations for the industrial zoning districts created under the Economic Analysis of Industrial Zoning Districts project. The recommendations focus on adjusting the requirements of the Zoning Bylaw to suit modern industrial, commercial and flex space needs.
The project began in December 2019 with assistance from the Zoning Bylaw Working Group and RKG Associates and Harriman. Its aim is to attract new businesses and jobs in emerging growth industries and create opportunities for the town to increase revenue by changing the Zoning Bylaw and Zoning Map.
Arlington is seeking feedback on its recommendations, which include the potential market opportunities the town could seek and possible zoning changes to facilitate those opportunities.

Since the project kicked off, staff from RKG Associates and Harriman have attended three meetings with the ZBWG and staff from DPCD. During these meetings, the existing conditions were reviewed, a market analysis and fiscal analysis were reviewed, zoning scenarios were reviewed and a set of draft zoning recommendations were made. All project information and presentations are available on the ZBWG's website.
