Arlington Select Board Approves New Voting Equipment

Issues were reported among voting machines during the June 6 election, leading to calls for a recount in some races.

ARLINGTON, MA — The Select Board approved the use of updated equipment starting with the Nov. 3 presidential election. The town will use the ImageCast Precinct Optical Tabulator, which alerts voters to a potential error and gives them an opportunity to reject, fix or cast their ballot as-is.

The town's current equipment, the Accu-Vote Optical Scanner, will be used for the Sept. 1 primary. State law requires communities to approve the use of new equipment at least 120 days before an election.

Issues were reported among voting machines in some precincts during the June 6 Town Election, leading to calls for a recount in races for Select Board and Town Meeting in precincts 6 and 17.
