ARLINGTON, MA — The city announced Friday that Phase 16 of the Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project is underway.

The phase includes sewer repairs to six areas throughout Arlington: One near the center of town, two in the southeast portion near the Mystic River, two in the southwest portion near Arlington Heights, and one in the southern portion near Spy Pond, bordering Belmont.

National Water Main Cleaning Company, N&M Excavating, and Duke’s Root Control are the three contractors. The town emphasized that they will be in clearly-marked trucks and attire when doing the work.

The project has the goal of reducing the amount of groundwater and rainwater that enters the sewer system, which in turn lowers the risk of backups and overflows.
The project is slated to continue through the end of March 2025.
