Crime Log: Individual Nearly Gets Away with $4K in False Checks

The following information comes from the Arlington Police Department.

Arlington Crime Log, Saturday, April 25

  • Motor Vehicle Break In, 8:54 a.m., Arlmont Street

Someone smashed the left-side rear window of a Honda, which had been parked on the street since 6 p.m. the previous day. No items were reported missing.

  • Three-Car Crash, 10:02 a.m., Appleton Street/Claremont Avenue

A driver on her way up Claremont Avenue missed a stop sign, and hit two cars traveling on Appleton Street. The first driver was given a citation for missing the stop sign. No injuries were reported.

  • Smoking Trash Compactor, 1:24 p.m., Massachusetts Avenue

A “Bigbelly Solar Compactor” on a public sidewalk was emanating smoke. When police arrived, Arlington Fire was already in the process of pouring buckets of water into the receptacle. The fire was swiftly put out, and did not warrant further investigation.

  • More than $4K in bogus checks, 2 p.m., Dudley Street

A business owner told police that four fake checks totaling $4086 had been cashed under the pretext of being from his company. Citizens Bank was able to provide him the supposed name of the individual responsible, and it was not someone who had ever been employed by the reporting party. Although, he said he often pays delivery truck drivers with checks, and such a driver or someone associated with such a driver could be responsible.

  • Kid Falls Out of a Tree, 5:20 p.m., Hibbert Street Park

A reporting party told police that as he was climbing a tree, a branch broke and he fell 10 feet to the ground, landing on his left arm. When he got home, his mom called 9-1-1 after he told her what happened.

  • Identity Stolen To Buy Apple Products, 6:12 p.m., Broadway

A man reported that someone aside from himself used his credit card information to buy more than $1380 worth of items from Apple.com. He spoke with the credit card company and Apple, who agreed that it was pretty weird that the shipping address and the card address were different, and canceled the order.
