Massachusetts Avenue Reconstruction Project Update

Motorists should be prepared to experience rapidly changing coned-off zones along the roadway.

The Massachusetts Avenue Reconstruction Project is continuing with work underway on both sides of Massachusetts Avenue.

Motorists are reminded that while Massachusetts Avenue has been paved to its finished riding surface, side streets abutting the project are still lower than the Avenue. Please exercise caution when turning off Massachusetts Avenue onto side streets throughout the project limits of work. Motorists are also reminded that as of 10/23/15, the signal at Bates Road/Massachusetts Avenue will be taken off red/yellow flash and switched to run a full red/green/yellow cycle. Please observe this new traffic control device.

Work for the week of October 26th will begin at 2 Monday morning with the hydro-seeding of all lawn and planter areas. During standard working hours on Oct. 26, pavement crews will begin the installation of permanent pavement markings on Massachusetts Avenue. Motorists should be prepared to experience rapidly changing coned off zones along the Avenue during the application of striping. Installation of permanent pavement markings will continue throughout the week. Approximately mid-week, permanent signage to match the new pavement markings will begin to be installed site-wide.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights, finish course paving of side streets will take place. The installation of this pavement will create a level riding surface across the entirety of the project. Motorists are reminded not to progress through any area blocked with construction barrels, cones, caution tape etc.

During the week of November 2nd, installation of permanent pavement markings and signage will continue. At present, it is anticipated that all finish striping will be installed by mid-week. During the week of November 9th, the project will focus on punch-list items. It is currently anticipated that Eversource will shift its remaining utility poles at this time. Assuming this takes place, J.H. Lynch will pour the sidewalk panels impacted by this operation.
