Medford Mayor Calls Campbell's Death 'Tragic,' 'Senseless'

Michael McGlynn said city is working on organizing a prayer vigil for Krystle Campbell.

Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn called the death of Medford native Krystle Campbell in Monday's bombing at the Boston Marathon "tragic" and "senseless" Tuesday afternoon.

McGlynn said he spoke to Campbell's father, William, around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to offer his condolences and the support of the city.

"There can be no good reason for what happened yesterday," said McGlynn.

McGlynn said he knew the "pain and suffering" William Campbell was going through due to the loss of his daughter.

McGlynn said Krystle had "the million-dollar smile," according to her father.

"She loved life," McGlynn said. "And her dad said she was the dream daughter, the daughter that every father would love to have...she had a great sense of humor. Between her freckles and her rich red hair, he said looking at her took you back to her Irish roots."

McGlynn said as of Tuesday afternoon plans were being organized for a prayer vigil for Campbell, but no plans have been finalized.

"I said to Mr. Campbell, 'Whatever it is you need, just call us, and we'll be able to help,'" McGlynn said.
